David began his journey at the Billings AWARE Group Home and later transitioned into the Madison Supported Living home. During his time there, he demonstrated valuable independent living skills and showed great progress with the support of the staff. His growth and capabilities made it clear that he was ready for the next step—living independently with AWARE’s Support Living Staff.
While in supported living, David held a job at the Anaconda AET Center, where he worked at the Hope Thrift Store. He served as a cashier, kept the store clean and organized, and ensured shelves were well-stocked. With staff support, he performed his responsibilities with diligence and pride. He also explored his passion for media by working at the Anaconda Radio Station, where he did sports broadcasting for an outdoor sports show—combining his love for sports with his outgoing personality.
David later moved into his own apartment at Cedar Park Homes, marking a major milestone in his independence. With the help of Supported Living Services, David manages his apartment, attends medical appointments, goes shopping, and participates in activities. Though David’s transition to independent living brought some challenges, he continues to work towards his goals.
David has gained diverse work experience, including roles as a cashier and bagger at both Albertsons and Stokes. He was appreciated by customers and coworkers alike for his friendliness and strong work ethic. He has learned valuable lessons from each job experience and continues to grow with the support of Vocational Rehabilitation services.
Currently, David is back at the Anaconda AET Center, where he works in food distribution—shopping for, organizing, and delivering supplies to adult DD homes and the ABA home. He is dedicated, hardworking, and committed to contributing to his community.
David’s thoughtful approach to managing money reflects his strong values of responsibility and self-reliance. By using simple tools like receipt-scanning apps, he not only finds creative ways to earn, but also stays intentional about saving. His quiet dedication and practical mindset are a testament to his resilience and positive outlook.
Outside of work, David enjoys being active in his community. He participates in a bowling league and plays a key role in selling tickets for Special Olympics events. His dedication and enthusiasm make him a valued member of every team he joins. David is currently focused on securing a new job in the community. With his persistence, support system, and growing skillset, he is well on his way to achieving even more of his personal and professional goals.
David’s journey is a reminder that independence is built on patience, kindness, and the strength of a supportive team. We’re incredibly proud of all he’s accomplished—and of the AWARE team walking beside him.
