Many of the best heroes walk alongside us hidden in plain sight. They assume the role when needed but quickly return to ordinary routines after answering the call. They’re humble by nature and deeply passionate about serving others.
They’re not born heroes, but they become them out of an intense desire to fulfill a mission. They’re resilient, and they lean into challenges without hesitation. They push the boundaries to achieve better outcomes, and we look up to them for their sheer tenacity and willingness to do the right thing – even when it’s frequently the most difficult choice.
We know it’s challenging to put the needs of others before your own, but it’s certainly worth the effort because it’s part of a greater purpose. The truth is, we’re all heroes in a way. We help people live independent lives – in the face of adversity– and without your dedication that wouldn’t be a reality for many.
Inspired by all of you, we are highlighting those who have gone above and beyond in their duties. They have risen to the challenge, and they continue to serve our mission despite everything that has been thrown at us.
This month’s Healthcare Hero goes to Mike Kopp, AET Program Coordinator for AWARE’s day and work services in Anaconda.
Mike has proudly served in various capacities at AWARE for the last 35 years. He has been a residential worker in our group homes, he was part of the recycling team before eventually managing the Anaconda facility and he has been instrumental in leading the Activities and Employment Training program for clients for many years now.
Mike’s peers and colleagues best describe him as being caring and compassionate. He regularly puts the needs of others before his own, and the best interests of clients are always top of mind. Mike is focused on building a quality team that is fully supported and has the best chance to succeed. He makes sure clients are always engaged and have plenty of quality opportunities in their environment.
He’s understanding and non-judgemental. When you talk with Mike, you know he’s really listening to what you have to say, and he’s helpful in identifying solutions that meet everyone’s needs. He never shies away from letting his crew know they are doing a good job, and his commitment to AWARE’s mission is rock solid. There’s not a task Mike won’t (or can’t) do, especially if it benefits the lives of our clients and employees. He is a great inspiration for anyone around him.
Mike, you are a true Healthcare Hero! Thank you for your 35 years of dedication and relentless commitment to helping people live independent lives. We are truly grateful for everything you do!
If you know of someone who should be recognized as the next Healthcare Hero, please send a tip to Bryon Higgins at bhiggins@aware-inc.org.
