The Power of Positivity!

This month’s Success Story is Troy Miller. Troy has been with AWARE for over 20 years. Since a young age, Troy has grown and developed into a kind, hardworking member of our community. Some goals and accomplishments of his are creating proper boundaries, being a good citizen in the community, and understanding the impact of his actions on others. Troy continues to grow and work hard to be the best person he can be, and is thankful for the help he receives, and he stays receptive to feedback while working toward his daily goals. 

Troy has lived in Butte, Anaconda, Galen, Great Falls, and currently lives in Missoula on our farm. Troy takes care of our 12 chickens, collecting eggs, feeding, watering, and keeping track of eggs collected to distribute to the other houses in the local DD community. He helps with the weekly distribution of groceries and is a wonderful support to those he works with. Sometimes, Troy helps his housemate with the four goats on the farm. During warmer weather, Troy takes care of the garden, planting, weeding and picking the good food for our use.  A few of Troy’s impressive attributes are his terrific memory and his willingness to always lend a hand. Troy enjoys being active and is a hard worker! He participates in many sports and activities such as frolfing, bowling, golfing and various Special Olympic events throughout the year. He recently participated in the Snowshoeing event in the Winter Special Olympics and received 2nd place in the individual event and 1st place in the unified event. This summer he is busy practicing for golf, softball throw and turbo jab.  He also loves to attend live sporting events like baseball and basketball and is an avid Montana Grizzlies fan. Troy also placed first in the Special Olympics Bowling competition held in Missoula. Check out some pictures of Troy in his element!  

In his spare time, Troy enjoys collecting Pokémon cards, collecting and playing Beyblade, playing with his Nintendo Switch, and listening to his police scanner. He loves to play at the arcade, watch DVDs, and watch farming YouTube videos! Troy also enjoys being adventurous in the kitchen, cooking new foods for the house (his specialty being Taco Soup), using his BBQ and smoker. He is very handy and creative, always building things with the variety of tools he owns.  

Troy is an easy-going and very social person, with a competitive side (Troy’s competitive edge shows when he beats staff at card games with non-stop teasing. 😊) He enjoys talking in person and on the phone with friends and family, as well as making new friends wherever he goes! He is an avid supporter of his Special Olympics team by asking all around him for donations. His mom and foster mom are strong supports, and he enjoys talking with them as well.  

We are so thankful that Troy is part of our team. All who have met Troy, can attest he is always in a good mood, and loves to joke around and make others smile. Troy works hard every day to work on his goals, and be the best version of himself to those around him.  

We are so proud of Troy’s successes with AWARE. Troy reminds us all of the power of positivity—let’s follow his lead and share a little more joy and a lot more smiles.
